Revelation 11:11-14

The two witnesses that were killed by the beast that ascended out of the bottomless pit remained dead in the street for three-and-a-half days (Revelation 11:8-9). They then were given the breath of life from God, and they ascended to heaven as all their enemies saw this taking place (Revelation 11:11-12). In Revelation 11:13-14 (NKJV) we learn, “13In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. In the earthquake seven thousand people were killed, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.

14The second woe is past. Behold, the third woe is coming quickly.

This is an example of the depth of the grasp that Satan has on us in this world.

This is an example of the depths that God will go to save us from the grasp of Satan.

The two witnesses that God sent to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and the kingdom of heaven were ridiculed just as was Jesus when God came to earth to save us from sin and the grasp of Satan. Many people did not believe in Jesus until after He had died and then was resurrected from the grave, just as it will be with the preaching of the two witnesses. Some scholars do, however, believe that those who were not killed in this event were not giving glory to the God of heaven unto believing in Him, but as to simply being afraid and succumbing to their fears. The words of the Apostle Paul come to mind as he declared in Romans 10:9-10 , “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” It is uncertain if those who were not killed in the earthquake of Revelation 11:13 were giving glory to God in salvation or simply in fear for their lives, but you can know for certain that you can give glory to God today through believing that Jesus died for your sins and that God raised Him from the dead in victory over sin, death, and Satan for you and for me.

Dear LORD,

We do not want to live in fear of your wrath, but in confidence that You love us and gave Your One and only Son Jesus to pay for our sins so that we may become Your children reconciled to You in life and joy. Please speak to our hearts and fill us with Your Holy Spirit in salvation as we put our faith in You. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
