Revelation 9:20-21

In Revelation 9:20-21 (NKJV) we learn, “20But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. 21And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts. God set the example in the Old Testament, as He did throughout His ministry to His people Israel as they wandered through the wilderness. In Exodus 32 is a great example of God’s jealousy for His creation to be loyal to Him, and of His anger at the disobedience of mankind. To worship/make an idol of anything that is put before God in our lives is sin, and God has promised His wrath for doing such things. After the disobedience of Israel in Exodus 32, God declares to Moses in Exodus 32:34c, “Nevertheless, in the day when I visit for punishment, I will visit punishment upon them for their sin.”

This is the description of those who are not killed by the three plagues of the sounding of the sixth trumpet after the Lamb opened the seventh seal from the scroll that He had taken from the right hand of Him who sits on the throne of heaven.

The first thing that comes to mind after reading this passage is, “has God already taken those who are faithful to Him to heaven with Him?” We have already read in Revelation 3:19-22, “19As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. 20Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

22He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’”

Dear LORD,

As we study Your Word of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, there is some confusion as to the order of the reading of the events. We are beginning to see that this revelation may be particular scenes from Your wrath to come on the world instead of being a chronological sequence of events that will take place in it. Please give us clarity that will lead us to confidence in our salvation in Jesus Christ, and help us to understand enough to believe in Jesus as our Savior. The Apostle John instructs us in John 20:31, “but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” Please let it be so LORD. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
