Revelation 8:1-6
In Revelation 8:1 the seventh seal is opened from the scroll that the Lamb has taken from the right hand of Him who sits on the throne of heaven. As this seal is opened, all went quiet for about half an hour. The implementation of time in heaven, where eternal life knows no time is noted. This may be simply so that John can comprehend the events of the Revelation of Jesus Christ as they unfold, or possibly, time is a part of eternity. In Revelation 8:2 seven angels are given seven trumpets that will be sounded soon as we learn in Revelation 8:6 they are preparing to sound following the events of Revelation 8:3-5.
In Revelation 8:3 another angel appears with a golden censer standing at the altar. Revelation 8:3-5 declares, “3Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 4And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. 5Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake.”
This is the opening of the seventh seal from the scroll that the Lamb has taken from the right hand of Him who sits on the throne of heaven.
Judgment is about to take place on the earth and the prayers of the martyrs (Revelation 6:9-11) are about to be answered. Fire has been hurled to the earth in what is believed to be the destruction of the earth by fire. Jesus declares in Luke 12:49-50 (NKJV), “I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished!” There is only one way to escape this judgment, and that is to put your faith in Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, and follow His will for your life. Invite Jesus to come into your heart today and make His home with you through His Holy Spirit who will be your guide to life eternal.
Dear LORD,
Judgment is coming. Judgment by fire as is the desire of Jesus to purge the world from sin. The baptism that He faced for us on the cross to pay the penalty for all sin is a baptism that we are not, nor cannot accomplish for ourselves. LORD, please give us understanding for our need for Jesus that we may be saved from such a fiery destination and be granted to live in Your glory forever. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
