Revelation 1:4-5d

In Revelation 1:4-5 is the common introduction and greeting as is found throughout the New Testament. John, the one chosen to write/document these things, gives the greeting to the “seven churches which are in Asia” (Revelation 1:4, NKJV). But this greeting is given as “from Him who is and who was and who is to come,” as in reference to the introduction of the Gospel of John 1:1-3 declaring, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” This greeting, however, then lists the seven Spirits and then signifies Jesus as the faithful witness as He has now completed His mission on earth and is at the right hand of God in heaven, the firstborn from the dead as our risen Savior, and the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:16). The “seven Spirits who are before His throne” (Revelation 1:4) holds several different interpretations of the “seven Spirits” but none can hold any absolute truth to this passage in the Revelation of Jesus Christ. I believe that the best possibility is that the word “seven,” in its meaning of completeness may signify the completeness of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

This is a greeting from Jesus in heaven – united with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit in His rightful place as the firstborn from the dead and the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

As we begin this study of The Revelation of Jesus Christ we must put on the new position of Jesus at the right hand of God in His new body in heaven. He was on earth the Savior of the world (John 3:16-17) sent to complete a mission of saving humanity from sin and the wiles of the devil; He has now completed that mission and is the firstborn from the dead in everlasting life, and the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Dear LORD,

We have been studying the life and ministry of Jesus as He walked this earth and taught His disciples and all who would believe in Him. Please help us now to see Jesus as He is in heaven at Your right hand – One with You and Your Holy Spirit once again in His rightful place. And please give us understanding for Your Word, even in the places in which we cannot clearly see, but that You give us enough to believe, believe in Jesus Christ, our King of Kings and Lord of Lords as He and only He was able to be the firstborn from the dead that He would give us life for believing in Him. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
