Mark 14:27-31

In Mark 14:27 (NKJV) Jesus said to His disciples, “All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written:

‘I will strike the Shepherd,

             And the sheep will be scattered.’ [Zechariah 13:7]

“But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.” The Lord would go on to speak through the Prophet Zechariah and declare in Zachariah 13:9,

“I will bring the one-third through the

fire,

Will refine them as silver is refined,

And test them as gold is tested.

They will call on My name,

And I will answer them.

I will say, ‘This is My people’;

And each one will say, ‘The LORD is

my God.’”

It is an amazing fact that the Christian population of the world is about one-third of the world’s population. But the truth is that everyone is made to stumble because of the sinful nature – it is only that one-third seem to be called by God to make it through the tests of this world and into the salvation offered to us by God Himself through His One and only Son Jesus.

This is a promise that stumbling is part of growing in our relationship with Jesus; the growth comes when we keep our focus on Jesus after the fall to help us get back up.

Jesus is our Lord and Savior; it was imperative that His disciples not be arrested and convicted with Him as it is only Jesus that must redeem us from sin with no outside help from anyone else that may be mistaken for taking some credit for that which only He can accomplish.

Dear LORD,

Your great plan of salvation is unwavering as Jesus prepares to fulfill His mission on earth to redeem mankind from sin. It is troubling that it may be only one-third that find that salvation as quoted from the Prophet Zachariah. It is my prayer that everyone who reads these words will be part of that one-third – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
