Mark 12:41-44

Jesus has just finished speaking about wrongdoings by taking advantage of the poor widow (Mark 12:40), and now exalts her as being the one with the sincere heart that those He spoke of in Mark 12:38-40 did not have. The rich gave out of pride and self-righteousness, but the widow gave in trusting God to take care of her needs as she gave all she had; all she had left was her faith in God.

This is an example that it is the condition of our heart in sincerity to God that He seeks in our lives for our relationship with Him.

Not to be mistaken, this is not a lesson that it is a bad thing to be rich, but in being rich continues to be the condition of one’s heart unto God that is the important thing. Rich or poor, God wants our hearts – He desires to have a sincere relationship with us based on love as He, out of love for us, gave His only begotten Son to pay for our sins, we too should give Him our love in thanksgiving and praise – sincerely – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

We are learning that it is not our money that You want but our hearts – our hearts in true submission and repentance to You for forgiveness from our sins, that in turn grants eternal life in Your glory – in Christ Jesus. Please let it be so LORD. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
