Mark 9:30-32

In Mark 9:30-32 Jesus once again makes known to His disciples of His coming rejection by man, and that it will lead to His death; but after three days He will rise. But the Bible also teaches us that His disciples did not understand what He was saying, and in their insecurities were afraid to ask Him to explain this saying to them.

Jesus went to the cross with the sins of man – all the sins of man, past, present, and future. It was important for Jesus to prophesy His betrayal, death, and resurrection to His disciples so that they would believe in Him upon His resurrection, and to fulfill the prophecies of Scripture. But it was equally important that His disciples not truly understand what He was saying as, if they did, they could provide comforting and support for Him during His time of trial and betrayal, which would imply that Jesus needed help in taking upon Himself the sins of the world, which is a task that Jesus must do by Himself in His purity to satisfy the requirements of being the Savior of the world. The Apostle Paul explains in Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV), “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace…” If His disciples would have understood this and then helped Him through it, then salvation would have been aided by man, which is impossible to redeem sin by that which is sin. Jesus alone is our Savior.

This is a promise that Jesus alone is our Savior, and that He wants us to know that He cares enough for us to die in our place so that we may live through Him – the gift of eternal life.

When God reveals His will for us to us, we sometimes are afraid to ask Him about what or how we should proceed with His revelation to us. But we live today in God’s grace and in the life-gift of salvation and forgiveness through our Savior Jesus. We do not have to be afraid to come to God and ask Him to give us help in understanding His will for our lives as He calls us to Him. He has opened the door as the veil was torn at the death of Jesus (Matthew 27:50-51), and He waits for us to, in faith, go through the door to life – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

We thank You for our Savior Jesus, and that He took our sins to the cross and paid for them “once for all” (Romans 6:10). Please help us to believe in Jesus, open our hearts to Him, repent from sin, and receive the life-gift of salvation and forgiveness in Christ Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
