Mark 6:53-56

In Mark 6:53-56 we learn of a people who had heard of Jesus and His miraculous power to heal, and even witnessed it firsthand.  A frenzy of excitement stirred amongst the people of that region to bring all the sick to Jesus to be healed; they believed in His power to make them well.  In Mark 6:56 (NKJV) the Bible teaches us that the people “begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment.  And as many as touched Him were made well.”

This is an example of the excitement that should be present in our lives as we hear of and see the power of Jesus working in our lives and in the lives of those around us.

As Jesus and His disciples crossed the sea from place to place, Jesus fed 5000 men (not to mention the women and children as they were not normally included in a census) with 5 loaves of bread and two fish, and then healed many people in proportions that most likely could not be counted.  The people were healed by simply touching the hem of Jesus’ clothing, almost in celebration of the woman in Mark 5:25-34 who first is recorded as being healed in this fashion.  The point is that the people were becoming more and more excited about Jesus and the healing power that He possessed.  They all wanted to be near Him.  The question for us is this, “Do you want to be near Him?”  “Does Jesus excite you?”  Run to Him and believe as did the people who are recorded in these events for us to learn from.

Dear LORD,

We do not have the physical Jesus walking, talking, and being with us to touch the physical hem of His clothing and receive His healing power.  But we do have Your Holy Spirit living within us as Jesus promised so that we can feel Your presence with us and feel You working in our lives and physically see the results of Your power continuing to work in our lives and in the lives of all who will put their faith in You.  Jesus said to Thomas in John 20:29, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed.  Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”  Please help us to believe in Your healing power through Your Holy Spirit that we too would run to You with our needs.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
