Mark 4:30-32

In Mark 4:30-32 Jesus gives yet another parable of the kingdom of heaven.  In this parable Jesus states, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God?  Or with what parable shall we picture it?  31It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; 32but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade” (Mark 4:30-32, NKJV).

This is an example of the kingdom of God.

The kingdom of heaven, as experienced in one’s life, begins as a small seed planted by the message of the gospel, which may come from a pastor’s sermon, a family member or friend sharing how Jesus has impacted their life, or from many other happenings in this world through which God may touch our lives and let us know that He is real and loves us.  But this small seed begins to grow as we learn more and more about God, Jesus, and His Holy Spirit working in our lives.  We study God’s Word and learn how we may apply these lessons in our own lives, and by doing so, God sends us blessings in our hearts through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit that cannot be explained of the joy that fills us as we grow in our relationships with Him.  Open your heart to Jesus today and you too will experience the joy of Christ Jesus in your life.

Dear LORD,

Sharing Your Word – planting the seed of the gospel message is the calling that you give us all regardless of the means by which our individual callings are utilized to do it.  We are all called to do our part in fulfilling the Great Commission as we learn in Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-47; John 20:21; and Acts 1:8.  Please help us to see that it is through the work that You do in our lives that the seed is planted in the hearts of others that in turn begins to grow through the working of Your Holy Spirit and into a new life of another – in Christ.  Please let it be so LORD.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
