Mark 1:25-28

In Mark 1:25-28 Jesus rebukes the unclean/evil spirit for attacking Him with questions of who Jesus is and of why He has come (Mark 1:23-24).  Jesus then commands the unclean/evil spirit to come out of the man (Mark 1:25).  The important thing to take note of here is that the unclean/evil spirit obeyed Jesus and came out of the man.  This proves that Jesus has greater power than the unclean/evil spirit.  The people were amazed at the power of Jesus as the Bible teaches us in Mark 1:27 (NKJV), “Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this?  What new doctrine is this?  For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”  Through this amazing event performed by Jesus, “His fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee” (Mark 1:28).

This is an example that the power of Jesus is greater than that of the unclean/evil spirits.

The Apostle Paul teaches us in Ephesians 6:10-13, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”   This is the real battle that we all fight each day against the wiles of the devil.  But it is not us that fight and expect to win as the devil is more powerful than us.  But Jesus defeated the devil once for all (Romans 6:10) and it is through our faith in Him that protects us.  The Bible teaches us in 1 Peter 5:8, Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”  If we have Jesus living in our hearts through His Holy Spirit, we have the protection that we need to save us from the wiles of the devil.  Profess Jesus your Savior today and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead in victory over sin, death, and the devil, and you will be saved.

Dear LORD,

It is hard for some to realize and understand that the devil sends his unclean/evil spirits to torment us each day.  Please help us to see the importance of having Your Holy Spirit living within our hearts to protect us from the devil and guide our every step as we put and keep our focus on You through our salvation in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
