2 Corinthians 13:11-14

In 2 Corinthians 13:11-14 is the benediction of the Apostle Paul’s second letter to the church at Corinth.  Throughout Paul’s teachings to the congregation of the church at Corinth he has been teaching them how to be a complete Christian.  Paul declares in 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NKJV), “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.”  And he has taught them that this is accomplished not of oneself but through salvation in Christ Jesus.  Paul’s final words in this letter to the church at Corinth states, “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  Amen.”  In this statement, the Apostle Paul acknowledges the Trinity that is the uniqueness of Christianity; the three persons in one that is God the Father eternally in heaven, God the Son who came from His heavenly position to take on the form of a human to die in purity (as only God is) to save us from sin and redeem us back to God, and God the Holy Spirit who dwells within each one who puts their faith in Him as God’s seal on our lives that we belong to Him, once again.

This is a promise of what we should be in our submission and salvation to God.

This is an example of what God has done for us so that we may be redeemed back to Him.

I find no better way to conclude our study on the second letter of the Apostle Paul to the church at Corinth than by his own words, “Finally, brethren, farewell.  Become complete.  Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you” (2 Corinthians 13:11) and as he closes in 2 Corinthians 13:14, “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  Amen.”

Dear LORD,

We seek Your guidance through the study of Your Word so that we can learn how to live as Your children and draw closer to You in the salvation You have provided for us in Your One and only Son Jesus working in our lives through Your Holy Spirit indwelling us.  Please help us to learn from the instructions that the Apostle Paul has given to the church at Corinth through Your inspiration in his life, that we would grow in our relationship with You, our Creator and our God – in Christ – through Your Holy Spirit.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
