2 Corinthians 13:1-4

In 2 Corinthians 13:1-4 the Apostle Paul informs the congregation of the church at Corinth that he will be visiting them for a third time.  He then quotes Deuteronomy 19:15 declaring, “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.”  It is as if he is saying that by this third visit he is establishing the authenticity of his ministry being in Christ.  But Paul also notes that in this third visit he will not be so lenient in his rebuking of those who have continued living in sin while yet claiming to be Christians.  Paul is convinced that the Corinthians will see the power of God working in him as though he is weak, the power of God is his strength in ministry.  There should no longer be any doubt of God leading his ministry.

This is a promise of the power of God working through his ministers of the gospel.

As our priests and pastors lead us each week, it is not permitted for them to preach their own agenda from the pulpit of God as the false teachers were doing in the first century.  They were diminishing the work of the ministry team of the Apostle Paul and by doing so were adding doubt to the congregation as to the authenticity of the power of God.

Today we have become so infatuated on proving the Word of God that we are getting off the track of preaching the gospel message through it.  Satan will use anything he can to distract us from drawing closer to God and realizing our need for salvation in Christ Jesus; he will even use the why and how of God’s Word to draw our focus to questioning its authenticity over learning it’s lessons and applying them in our lives.  We must be smart and see when this is happening so that we may not get sidetracked and not see the forest for the trees.

Dear LORD,

The devil has many ways to deceive us today and draw our attention away from You through the advancements of science and technology, amongst other things.  Please help us to first of all believe in our hearts that You are real as we can feel You working in our lives through the indwelling of Your Holy Spirit.  We can see You working in the everyday miracles that You continue to show us, but we must open our eyes to Your saving grace as You give us the gift of life in Your One and only Son Jesus.  Please help us to believe and erase all doubt of Your working in Your ministers today – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
