2 Corinthians 1:13-14

As the Apostle Paul writes his second letter to the congregation of the church at Corinth, he reminds them of the importance that they have understanding in faith, hope, and love as best they can in this world, which he has already explained in his first letter to them.  He declares in 1 Corinthians 13:9-10, “For we know in part and we prophesy in part.  But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.”  And in 1 Corinthians 13:12-13 he declares, “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face.  Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

“And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

In the face of false teachings in Paul’s absence he reaches out to the congregation in hopes that they are in support of his teachings as they are also being supported by him – in Christ.

This is an example of the necessity for support from our Christian brothers and sisters to protect us from false teachings which will be presented to us through the secular worldview and the power that Satan has over it.

We have all experienced times when God has touched us through the working of His Holy Spirit in our lives through the support of our Christian brothers and sisters.  And we have all experienced times when our faith was tested by the secular world in the trials, tribulations, and temptations that are thrown at us by Satan himself.  When we are together with our Christian brothers and sisters we are strong in numbers, but when we are singled out and attacked by Satan, it can be very hard to stand tall for Christ.  We need the support of each other, and we need the confidence to come to one another for support in being assured that we will not receive condescending attitudes in times of need but find the strength we need from one another to build each other up and defeat the wiles of the devil – in Christ.  The Bible teaches us as the Apostle Paul states in Acts 20:32 (NKJV), “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”

Dear LORD,

Please give us the confidence in our brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus to come to one another for support knowing that we will not be received in a condescending way as the one in need of support will also be the one giving support when the attack is given by Satan to them.  Please help us to always remember what abides for us in this world from Christ Jesus – faith, hope, and love; and that the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13).  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
