2 Corinthians 1:12

Simplicity and godly sincerity; these are the things in which the Apostle Paul boasts in for his conduct in ministry.  He says that this is the testimony of his conscience – not that they (Paul and Timothy, 2 Corinthians 1:1) would boast in expressing the wisdom of this world, which is self-centered and arrogant, but that they have a wisdom given by the grace of God; a testimony of conscience that comes with peace within from God’s Holy Spirit working in them.

This is a promise that God’s wisdom, given to us through His Holy Spirit, is more powerful than the wisdom of this world.

Simplicity and godly sincerity are two key factors in having a relationship with God through our Savior Jesus Christ.  Simplicity means that we do not have to complicate things through our own views of importance; simply put your trust in Jesus and believe that God has raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9-10).  Salvation in Christ Jesus is not complicated, it is the most simple decision that you will ever make, it is just that Satan fills your mind with the things of this world that he wants to be more important to you than Jesus.

Sincerity is the key to the opening of the door to salvation.  The Bible teaches us in 1 Timothy 1:5 (NKJV), “Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,”.  The Bible also teaches us in Romans 13:10, “Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”  It is being open to the love of God to fill your heart that is the essence of sincerity to God in salvation; it is a sincerity of heart in your purpose to seek Jesus.  With a sincere heart to God the simplicity of your relationship with Him will become more and more evident as you sincerely trust in Jesus.

Dear LORD,

This world and the things in it can be so complicated and confusing.  Please help us to see that putting our faith in Jesus does not rely on the things of this world but of the things of the spirit; that we would put aside the things of this world and focus simply on trusting You to help us through the complicated and confusing things of each day; that You would give us clarity of heart, mind, and soul – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
