1 Corinthians 15:40-45

As the Apostle Paul continues to explain the different types of bodies in existence, we learn that each type of body has its own glory which shines in reflection of God Almighty, our Creator.  But in this world is corruption, dishonor, and weakness.  But at the resurrection of the dead, the body will be raised in incorruption, glory, and power.  The Apostle Paul declares in 1 Corinthians 15:42-45 (NKJV), “42So also is the resurrection of the dead.  The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.  43It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory.  It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.  44It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.  There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.  45And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being” [Genesis 2:7].  The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.”

This is a promise of a better body in the life-giving resurrected body – in Christ.

Adam was created in the corruption, dishonor, and weakness of this world as it was seemingly inevitable that the sinful nature of this world would eventually conquer the gullible man.  But Jesus came to be a “life-giving spirit” (1 Corinthians 15:45) and it is through Him that life is truly found.  Jesus taught His disciples in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Dear LORD,

We have been corrupted; we have been dishonored, and we have become weak in our physical bodies.  As we grow older we see this more and more as our physical bodies are not capable of things which we were when we were younger.  But You are drawing us closer to You as we increase in wisdom, knowledge and understanding of You and Your Son Jesus and of our need for You in our lives to restore us to You through the salvation You offer us in Your one and only Son Jesus.  Please help us through the door to life eternal – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
