1 Corinthians 7:17-24

It appears that the Christians in Corinth were trying to “do” things to change their lives as they became saved.  They were trying to openly change their lives to superficially do Christian things and live in the stereotypical Christian ways.  Paul instructs them in 1 Corinthians 7:24 (NKJV), “Brethren, let each one remain with God in that state in which he was called.”

This is a command to follow the personal calling God has given to you.

God calls each of us individually for a purpose and to a purpose that He has designed us specifically for.  We do not need to change anything to “appear” more Christian – Jesus has changed us when we were filled with His Holy Spirit.  The Apostle Paul exclaims in 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV), “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”  God changes our lives when we are saved – He did the work – we are to “receive” the gift that He has for us – in Christ.  Just follow what God has put in your heart and pray sincerely that God will guide you where and how He will have you; and follow Him.  The change in your life has happened in Christ Jesus; no further change is needed but to follow Him.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to see that when we open our hearts to You and receive the gift of salvation in and through Christ Jesus, we do not have to change our own lives and try to be a Christian because we are now Your children and You have changed our lives forever – in Christ.  Thank You Jesus.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
