1 Corinthians 6:15-20

In 1 Corinthians 6:15-20 the Apostle Paul explains the importance of sexual purity in the eyes of God.  Paul declares in 1 Corinthians 6:16 (NKJV), “16Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her?  For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” [Genesis 2:24].  Paul continues in 1 Corinthians 6:17-20, “17But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

18Flee sexual immorality.  Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.  19Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?  20For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

This is a command to flee sexual immorality.

The Bible teaches us in Genesis 2:21-24, “And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.  Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

“And Adam said:

‘This is now bone of my bones

And flesh of my flesh;

She shall be called Woman,

Because she was taken out of Man.’

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”  God intended one man to be married to one woman; this is the example of intimacy that God desires for us to experience with the idea of understanding the bond that is created by a sincerely dedicated relationship.  This bond and connection made through marriage is to help us to realize that our relationship with God is to be even stronger and more fulfilling.

Dear LORD,

The secular world seems to revolve around sex by whatever means the individual desires to have.  But please help us to see that as Christians we are to live by the sexual standards that You have designed for us, and that when we come to You and ask sincerely of Your forgiveness through our Savior Christ Jesus for our past sins, You cleanse us from them and forget about them forever.  We are renewed in Christ Jesus and set free from our past into a new life cleansed from sin as was the woman in John 8:1-12.  Please touch the hearts of anyone who may be struggling with this today and give them the power in Christ Jesus to overcome temptation and truly be a child of God.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
