Matthew 18:10-11

Jesus continues this teaching of the “little children” in relation to being a new child of God.  He gives His main point of His ministry in Matthew 18:11 (NKJV) as He declares, “For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.”  The little children in Christ Jesus/those who are new in their salvation of putting their faith in Jesus as their Savior, just as a newborn child needs special attention to survive – they need special protection from the wiles of the devil as he is sure to attack viciously to try and draw this person away from God.  Jesus tells us in Matthew 18:10, “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.”

This is a promise that God watches over the newborn children in Christ with special attention.

God watches over us all always.  He has promised this through salvation in Christ Jesus (John 14:15-18, 26).  But we must also beware that Satan attacks/lashes out at those whom he has lost to Christ Jesus.  I once heard a pastor state that it should be a good thing to know that Satan is attacking you because when you were lost in sin he already had you – there was no reason to attack you.  But now that you have opened your heart to Jesus and accepted Him into your heart and professed Him you Savior, you now have a new life of forgiveness in Christ Jesus (Romans 10:9-10).  Satan attacks you because he has lost you to Christ Jesus – he is mad and will forever strive to get you back.  The good news is that Jesus has already defeated Satan for you, and in Christ Jesus, you are sealed/protected by the blood that He shed for you and the life that He lives being risen from the grave.  The Apostle Paul declares in Romans 6:10, “For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.  Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Dear LORD,

Thank You for watching over us all as we put and keep our faith in our Savior Christ Jesus.  And thank You for paying special attention to us as we become like newborn babes in Christ that our angels are always seeing Your face in heaven.  You are Almighty God – all praise and honor and glory be to You LORD – in Christ!  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
