Matthew 11:25-26

Jesus has been rebuking the people for their unresponsiveness and unwillingness to accept His teachings.  He then goes directly into a prayer to His heavenly Father in which He thanks God for revealing these things to “babes” (NKJV); “little children” (NIV), and not to the “wise and prudent” (NKJV).  Those representing the “little children” are those who are dependent on their parents for survival, such as those who realize their need for God in their lives.  The “wise and prudent” are representative of those who feel no need for guidance in their lives as they feel they have everything under control on their own with no need for help from God.  As we may question God for revealing these important things to children instead of the wise, Jesus states in Matthew 11:26 (NKJV), “Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.”  This is a very important statement as what matters most is the will of God; not the will of man.

This is an example that God reveals things to those who acknowledge their dependency on Him.

The brokenness of one’s life is the revelation for the need for help, and this is the point at which most people need to come to before realizing the need for seeking the will of God in their lives.  I believe this is a sad way to have to come to the most important realization in our lives, but the words of Jesus are very true as this is not from the will of man but the will of God.  Satan gives us a mind in this world that is led toward believing that we can do everything and accomplish everything on our own.  This mindset shows no need for God in our lives and is reflective of the ways of this world – the ways of Satan.  We must come to the realization that we have a need for God before we can come to Him.  Regardless of what I or you may think about this, Jesus has declared the true reason for it that we must take into consideration, “Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight” (Matthew 11:26).

Dear LORD,

This prayer is so simple for those who have come to a realization of our need for the salvation You have provided for us in Christ Jesus; “Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight” (Matthew 11:26) is what we need to have our eyes opened to.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
