Matthew 10:1-4

Jesus knew that the time was coming when He would be, “taken up” (Acts 1:9, NKJV), and that He needed to, “send out laborers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:38).  In Matthew 10:1-4 Jesus calls His closest group of disciples to Him (the twelve) and He gives them power to cast out unclean spirits and to heal all kinds of sickness and disease.  In Matthew 10:2-4 is a list of the names of the twelve disciples of Jesus who are now referred to as “apostles” or the ones “sent out” by Him.

This is an example of the divine power of Jesus being given to those who follow Him.

The Apostle Paul teaches us in Ephesians 4:11-16 (HCSB), “And He personally gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, for the training of the saints in the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into a mature man with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness.”

In the body of Christ, it is believed that we all have a gift.  What that gift is varies as to what God has called each individual person to do or to be in their salvation.  Jesus called His closest twelve disciples to be apostles, which is where we get the term “missionary” as the word apostle means one who is sent out.  What is the calling that God has put on your life?  Do you know?  Are you following that calling?  If you do not know of a personal calling that God has given you, pray, and ask God what it is that He would like you to do for Him.  You will be amazed at where God will lead you if you will be open to His calling on your life – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

We believe that You have, or are calling us all to a life beyond anything we can imagine.  We put our trust in You and open our hearts and minds with all our strength to seek Your will for our lives.  Please show us and lead us to the callings in which You have for us so that we may bring glory to You through our lives.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
