Matthew 6:5-8

In the passage of Matthew 6:5-8 Jesus teaches that prayer should not be something that we use to get the attention of men.  Prayer should be a private time with our needs being brought before our heavenly Father – the One who has the power to help us through the difficulties of our lives, and celebrate the good and exciting times with us.  Jesus gives two examples of people who pray improperly and then gives us assurance for praying as God would have us to in Matthew 6:8 as He states, “Therefore do not be like them.  For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.”

This is an example of ways in which we should not pray (Matthew 6:5-7).

This is a promise that God knows our needs and is always present and waiting to hear our prayers.

Many people believe that they are too far away from God for Him to hear their prayers.  If you are one of these people, please hear this; God loves you and is waiting anxiously to hear from you.  He loves you and sent His one and only Son to die for your sins so that you may be brought back to Him through your faith in Him as your Savior.  God wants to hear from you about the things that you need help with and of the things that you are thankful and excited for.  God wants to share your life with you if you will call on Him in prayer.  He desires to hear from you every day.  God loves you, but if you do not share your life with Him, He will not force Himself on you but waits for you to open your heart to Him in sincerity and obedience to seek His ways for your life.  Communicating with God in prayer is a big part of a Christians life…and God loves to hear from us.  Reach out to God today in sincerity of your heart and ask Him to be a part of your life – in Christ Jesus!

Dear LORD,

Please help us to see that You are always ready to hear from us – to help us when we are in need, and to celebrate the life You have given us – with us.  We know that You love us and have sent Your one and only Son to save us from the sin that tries to hold us back from having a relationship with You.  Please help us to see that You are more powerful than sin and will set us free from it if we will come to You in prayer with a sincere heart – in Christ!  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
