Matthew 2:1-2

Mary gave birth to Jesus in the town of Bethlehem (Matthew 2:1).  There were “wise men” or who we might refer to as scholars of the day who came to worship the newly born “King of the Jews” (Matthew 2:2, NKJV).  Many believe that these “wise men” were the scientists of the day in that they studied the stars, and along with their scholarly knowledge would have studied the Scriptures and been aware of the prophecies of the coming Messiah – they would have been anxious to see the fulfillment of things they have studied.  When the star appeared that guided them to Jesus, they would have had some theological backing and faith in God to have hearts that desired to worship the Baby Jesus.

This is an example of having faith in God in sending Jesus our Savior into this world.

As Jesus was born, a star – a light guided man to the Savior of the world.  As the Baby Jesus grew and entered into His earthly ministry, He became the light that would guide man to God – to a redeeming act of repentance, forgiveness, and everlasting life through our faith in Him.  The Apostle Paul declares in Romans 3:21-26 (HCSB), “But now, apart from the law, God’s righteousness has been revealed – attested by the Law and the Prophets – that is, God’s righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ, to all who believe, since there is no distinction.  For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.  They are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.  God presented Him as a propitiation through faith in His blood, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His restraint God passed over the sins previously committed.  God presented Him to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be righteous and declare righteous the one who has faith in Jesus.”  Jesus proclaims to us in John 8:12 (NKJV), “I am the light of the world.  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.”  Open your heart to Jesus today and receive the light of life.

Dear LORD,

You have given us many examples of turning away from the darkness of this world and to the light that You have provided for us – the light of Christ Jesus – to save us from sin and redeem us back to You in a relationship that is found no other place but in the Savior of the world that You offer to us – the light of the world Christ Jesus.  Please help us to believe in our Savior Jesus and put our faith in Him.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
