Romans 9:1-5

The Apostle Paul expresses his concern for his countrymen of Israel; God’s chosen people to whom were given the Law, the covenants, and who were called to service by God to be His representatives to the world.  A people to whom God chose to bring His Son Jesus into this world.  Paul is and has been preaching the gospel to the Jews and Gentiles in hopes of leading them to an understanding of our Savior Jesus and of the need for forgiveness through Him.  He sees his fellow countrymen, a people called by God to be His representatives to the world, who are not opening their hardened hearts to Jesus and he is pleading with them in that he would be willing to be given their sins if that would bring them to salvation in Christ Jesus.

This is an example of a pure heart crying out for the salvation of others.

The Apostle Paul cannot take upon himself the sins of others so that they may be saved and come to an understanding of the need for Jesus in our hearts for forgiveness.  But he shows his concern for those around him and of his desire to reach them for Christ Jesus.  We too should have a similar attitude in reaching out to those whom God has put in our lives that we could lead to Christ by our example and kind hearted words – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

Please give us a heart for others like that of the Apostle Paul that we too would reach out in sharing the gospel and leading others to salvation in Christ Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
