Hebrews 13:18-19

The author of Hebrews asks for prayer from the recipients of the letter in support of having a good conscience and their desire to live honorably (Hebrews 13:18).  The urgency in the need for prayer is indicated in verse 19 in that as the precise situation of the author is not mentioned, there is a hindrance that is preventing the author of the letter to visit the recipients of the letter.

This is a command to pray for one another in Christ to have confidence in the path in which the Lord is leading us.

The Apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 4:6 (NKJV), “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”  Our salvation in Christ Jesus is having a relationship with Him that reconnects us with our Creator God.  The most personal way in which we can do our part in building this relationship is through personal prayer time each day.  The Lord desires to hear our voices crying out to Him in praise for what He is doing in our lives and also in seeking His guidance and healing for the things that weigh heavy on our hearts.  God is love (1 John 4:8, 16) and love requires a relationship to be complete and fulfilling.  God sent His love for us in His Son, and He is glorified when we respond to Him in love.  Be sure to spend time in prayer each day in seeking guidance and support for one another in Christ and to grow in our individual relationships with God – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

Our prayers are spending quiet time with You in seeking Your guidance and support for our lives and our brothers and sisters in Christ.  It is also through prayer that You hear our petitions to call the lost to You and give us guidance in reaching out to them to show the love that You have shown us to them in hopes that they too will open their hearts to Jesus.  Please help us to see the importance of spending time in prayer each day with You in seeking Your will for our lives that we would have confidence in the path that You are leading us in living honorable lives to bring glory to You.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
