Hebrews 11:21

Jacob, the younger brother, received the birthright and his father Isaac’s blessing of the promise that was first given to Abraham.  He in turn, through faith, gave his blessing not to his oldest son Ruben (from his first wife Leah), but to his firstborn son Joseph (from his second wife Rachel).  Before he died, he blessed Joseph’s two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.  In Genesis 48 is the passage of Jacob, through faith, giving the greater blessing to Joseph’s younger son Ephraim, once again breaking the tradition of man’s blessing given to the older son.

This is an example of God’s blessings being given differently than the traditions of man.

This is a great example for us today in having faith in God to lead us in ways that we do not understand.  We may wrestle with God, as Jacob did in Genesis 32:22-32, as we search for what God has in store for us, but through it all we must put our faith in Him that His plan for us, while being different than what we may think, is better for us than the road in which we may want to travel.  But as God leads us down roads that are unknown to us, He will provide the way for us to accomplish His mission for us if we will put and keep our faith in Him.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to see that Your ways are greater than our ways, and the path that You lead us down is a greater way of life for us than the road in which we may want to travel.  But please help us to also understand that the way in which You will lead us is only able to be followed if we put You first in our lives by opening our hearts to Jesus and ask of His forgiveness of our sins.  If we will trust that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and that it is only through Him that we will receive the guidance of Your Holy Spirit with a forgiven, cleansed heart from the sins of this world, You will be with us each step of the way down the road in which You lead us.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
