Hebrews 5:12-14

Those to whom the author of Hebrews is writing are obviously, in his awareness of them, not applying the teachings of the gospel message in their lives – they are not growing in their relationship with God through their salvation in Jesus.  He states that they should be teachers by now but are still yet in need of milk and not solid food (Hebrews 5:12, NKJV).  He refers to them as “babes” which indicates a need for growth and maturity.  The author of Hebrews tells us in Hebrews 5:14b, “But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

This is a command, example, and promise that we are to grow in our walk with God through our salvation in Christ Jesus.

When we open our hearts to Jesus and accept the gift of forgiveness and eternal life that God offers us through Him, the road does not end – it is the beginning of that road in a new forgiven life that is meant to be experienced in Christ Jesus.  God has every intention for us to grow in our walk with Him and to share our experiences with Him, with others – with all the world as Jesus instructed His disciples in the giving of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-47; John 20:21; and Acts 1:8.  Jesus is not to be accepted and then hung in a closet for a rainy day; Jesus is to become our best friend and walk with us through all of our lives – the good times and the bad times, for He will help us through them all and He desires to share our lives with us as we learn daily from Him about the glorious life that He has for us – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

Please spur us with Your Holy Spirit to “wake up” and experience the great life You have for us in our Savior, the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ.  Please help us to seek You will for us daily in study of Your word, prayer, fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ, and sharing Your great love for us with others that they too may be led to You and experience Your great love for them – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
