Hebrews 2:10-13
Hebrews 2:10 begins with the core of Christian belief, “For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings” (NKJV). All of creation, including man, was made through Jesus and for Jesus. In His earthly body being crucified and resurrected was the stamp of exemplifying Him perfect through the sufferings of man that He put on Himself for salvation. In Hebrews 2:11-12 the author tells of how (in Christ) all are one in that as we submit our lives to Jesus, He sends His Holy Spirit to live within us and adopts us into the family of God, calling us “brethren”, and as His prayer in John 17:20-23 (ESV) states, “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.”
This is a promise that all things were made through Jesus and for Jesus.
This is a promise that all who believe in Jesus are “in” Him and He “in” us making us “brethren” or as we might say, “brothers and sisters in Christ”.
This is a perfect summary of Christianity in that all things were made through Jesus and for Jesus – to bring glory to Him – that in all things He would be glorified as He alone is worthy of glory. Revelation 4:11 (NKJV) proclaims,
“You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were
Created.”
And Revelation 5:9-10 (NIV) states,
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve
our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”
Continuing in Revelation 5:12 (ESV),
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might
and honor and glory and blessing!”
And in Revelation 5:13 (HCSB),
“Blessing and honor and glory
and dominion
to the One seated on the throne,
and to the Lamb, forever and ever!”
We were created through Jesus and by Jesus. He is the One in which we may be made right in the eyes of God. He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). We all may be brothers and sisters – in Christ – through Christ. Jesus has broken the chains of sin in all our lives; we just have to realize that and ask His help to climb out of them. He has already set us free from sin – believe in Him and ask of His forgiveness today if you have never done so, and begin living a new life in Christ and be welcomed by His Holy Spirit as a brother or sister in Christ.
Dear LORD,
It is fitting, for Jesus, that we all would give Him glory through our lives; that through Him and by Him all things were created to bring Him glory. Please help us to put our trust – our faith in Jesus and seek Your will for our lives each day, and that we would continue to grow in our relationship with You and share our testimony with others that they too may join us as brothers and sisters in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
