Hebrews 1:14

The author of Hebrews asks the question in Hebrews 1:14 concerning the angels of being ministering spirits that God sends to minister those who will inherit salvation.  In this statement is the chain of command of being “sent” as one who is sent is not in authority but under the authority of the one by which they were sent.  This statement shows that the angels are “under” the authority of God, and as Jesus and God are One, the angels are under the authority of Jesus and cannot then be equal to Him.

This is an example of the angels being under the authority of Jesus and thus inferior to Him.

There are many examples in the Bible of angels being sent by God to minister to those who believe in Him.  He is their Commander and Chief.  Many people believe (as do I) that God continues to send His angels to minister to those who believe in Him still today.  This should be a constant reminder to us as we never know when God has sent an angel to us as a stranger to see if we will display the brotherly kindness that Jesus has taught us in reflecting Him through our lives to others.  Hebrews 13:1-2 states, “Let brotherly love continue.  Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.”

Dear LORD,

We thank You for sending Your angels to watch over us and minister to us as You lead us to everlasting salvation in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  We thank You for teaching us that Your angels are not to be worshiped as You alone are worthy of our worship, but that in sending Your angels to minister to us, even though we may not be aware of it, You are teaching and protecting those who will inherit salvation – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
