Hebrews 1:5

In Hebrews 1:5 the author continues to exalt Jesus over the angels by quoting Scripture from Psalm 2:7 and 2 Samuel 7:14.  He questions if God has ever referred to any of the angels as being His Son.  Genesis 1:1 (ESV) states, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”  And John 1:1-3 (NIV) states, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.  Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”  And John 1:14a (NIV) states, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”  It is important that we see in creation that God did just that: He created from nothing, something.  All that was made was made through the living Word that became flesh.  The word “begotten” is from the word “beget” which, according to Merriam-Webster’s College Dictionary: Fifth Edition, means to acquire, or to bring into being.  God brought into physical being His Son, who already existed with God in the spiritual world, but needed to be “acquired” as a physical being on earth to accomplish the fulfillment of the physical Law given to Moses.  Why is this important?  Because God created the heavens and the earth, and all that are in them, but Jesus has always existed with the Father in heaven as One.  To be acquired or brought into physical being is how God Himself came from heaven to save that which was lost (Matthew 18:11).  Yet as a human “being”, the relationship of God to Jesus is like that of a Father to a Son, as during His physical being God and Jesus were two separate entities and a proper relationship between the two was required with Almighty God remaining as the ultimate authority, and yet remaining united through the third entity – God’s Holy Spirit.

This is an example and promise that Jesus is the Son of God and He is exalted over the angels.

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  The Three-in-One Trinity of the Godhead.  All with separate roles yet connected as One working continually together to accomplish the mission of salvation for all humanity; to save that which was lost (Matthew 18:11); to save the world from sin (John 3:16-17).  Jesus came from heaven to fulfill the physical Law given by God to Moses (Matthew 5:17) and to be the door which leads to eternal life (John 10:9) for all who will believe in Him (John 3:16) and become children of God (John 1:12-13).  Jesus is our Savior.  He is the way to true life – the life that God has intended for you to live since the day He created you.  If you have not made the choice to follow Jesus and surrender your life to Him, I encourage you to do so today, and begin living true life – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

You sent Your Son Jesus to be the Savior of the world – to save from sin all who will believe in You – to be born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (John 1:13).  Show us the door to life LORD that is Your only begotten Son Jesus, that we would live – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
