Hebrews 1:3c

The author of Hebrews tells us that He (Jesus) alone “purged our sins.”  Jesus tells His disciples in Luke 9:22 (NKJV), “The Son  of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.”  The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 6:10 (ESV), “For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.”  And we learn from John 3:16-17 (NIV), “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”  When Jesus had finished His work in His physical body through His death and resurrection from the dead in victory over sin, death, and Satan, He ascended to heaven and took His place at the right hand of God (Hebrews 1:3c).  Mark 16:19 (ESV) states, “So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.”

This is a promise that Jesus alone paid the price for our sins.

Satan is the inventor of lies and deceitful practice.  He leads many people astray from God by making them believe that they themselves can earn their way to eternal life in heaven.  But the truth is that one must realize and accept the fact that it is only through Jesus that one may enter the kingdom of God for all eternity. Acts 4:12 (NIV) states, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”  I echo the words of Jesus to His disciples in John 14:6 (NKJV) as He proclaims, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

In many places throughout the Bible we are told that anyone who believes in Jesus – that He was sent from God in heaven to save them from sin will be saved.  But believing in Jesus is so much more than just acknowledging His existence.  A sincere heart to Jesus seeks to follow His ways and open your life to Him that He may shine His glorious light of life through You.  Believing in Jesus is striving to please Him; this requires repentance – to turn in another direction than that in which you were traveling before you met Jesus; to turn your life to Jesus and away from the sinful nature that no longer has rights to you because you are now a child of God.  Believing in Jesus is living a new life with Him.

Dear LORD,

This Bible study is intended to challenge people to open their Bibles and see for themselves the wonderful love that You have given us in Your Son Jesus and the salvation that only He can provide.  This Bible study is intended to help us all learn and grow in our relationships with You through salvation in Jesus.  We all need Your guidance and forgiveness each day in this ever-changing world that has no permanent promises to stand on.  Please help us to see the love that You have provided for us in the Savior of the world – Jesus.  In  Jesus name I pray, amen.
