2 Peter 3:15-16

The Apostle Peter states in 2 Peter 3:15 (NKJV), “the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation” and attests that Paul has also written about the longsuffering of the Lord in salvation.  Peter then confirms the authentic God-inspired writings of Paul to be accounted as Scripture just as is to be considered of the writings of what we call the Old Testament.  But Peter also gives us a warning concerning the false teachers who twist the message into their own destruction in that some things in Scripture are hard to understand.

This is a confirmation of the inspired word of God through the Apostle Paul.

This is a warning to not twist hard to understand Scripture into something it is not.

There is only one person who knows everything there is to know about the Scriptures, and that is Almighty God Himself.  But having faith in His ultimate plan of salvation for all man, we should seek to study and learn all that we can about the Scriptures without twisting them as to make them apply to our own wants and needs.  We must remember and keep close to our hearts that we must submit to God’s will for our lives and not try to make God submit to our wants and desires as that is Satan trying through the sinful nature to overthrow God through us.  God has already defeated Satan once for all through the death and resurrection of Jesus who died for our sins so that we may live through our faith in Him.

Dear LORD,

Thank You for giving us Your inspired word through the prophets of the Old Testament and the apostles of the New Testament that we may learn of Your love for us and of how we may obtain salvation through our Savior Jesus.  Please help us to not twist Your word into something that we desire it to be, but that we would seek Your will for our lives in conforming our lives to Your will for us – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
