2 Peter 3:8-9

“But, beloved,” Peter states, as he turns his attention once again, “To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:” (2 Peter 1:1, NKJV).  In response to the “scoffers” comments of “‘Where is the promise of His coming?  For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation’” (2 Peter 3:4), Peter reminds us (as is his intention with this epistle, 2 Peter 3:1) that, “with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day (2 Peter 3:8).  He continues in 2 Peter 3:9 to remind, once again, that, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

This is a promise that God has not forgotten you, but is waiting patiently for you to recognize that He will forgive you, comfort you, and give you a new life in our Savior Christ Jesus.

God’s great love and compassion for us as His greatest creation prevents Him from destroying the world by fire for a time, as His desire is for us all to hear the gospel and react to it by opening our hearts to Jesus and accepting the forgiveness and new life that He, and only He can offer us.  He is the way, the truth, and the life. And there is no other way to the Father God in heaven for all eternity (John 14:6).  God has a great life for you if you will open your heart to Him today and ask of His forgiveness.

Dear LORD,

Your great love for us longs for us to break free from the chains of sin and gain a new life of freedom in Christ Jesus.  Please help us to see that You are waiting patiently for us to come to the foot of the cross and ask forgiveness from Jesus for taking our place and dying for our sins.  But help us to realize that Jesus died for us because He is capable to forgive us and cleanse us white as snow – in Christ.  Please call us to choose Jesus, and choose life in Him.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
