2 Peter 2:2-3
The false teachers that Peter speaks of in 2 Peter 2;1 will deceive many people who will follow their deceitful ways and join in with them in blaspheming Jesus as Peter states in 2 Peter 2:2. The Apostle Peter tells us in verse 3 that these people will exploit you with deception and covetousness; in other words, these false teachers will trick you into believing their ways by lying to you in greed (covetousness) for the gain of others possessions and wealth. Many people may wonder why God would allow such things to take place, but the destruction of the false teachers is not idle as the Apostle Peter puts it, “and their destruction does not slumber” (2 Peter 2:3, NKJV).
This is a promise that the false teachers who deny Jesus will face judgment and destruction.
I say again, Many people may wonder why God would allow such things to take place, but we must remember that we live in a sinful world that was brought on by the actions of man (Adam and Eve), and the residual effects of the disobedience of Adam and Eve will continue to plague mankind through the sinful nature until Jesus returns and throws Satan and his followers into the lake of burning brimstone (Revelation 19-20). But until then it is our job as Christians to share the Word of God – the living Word of God in salvation through Jesus our Savior and the forgiveness from the sinful nature that God offers to us all through Him. We should share the gospel with everyone; with our Christian brothers and sisters to be an encouragement to each other and build each other up in Christ Jesus. And to the lost souls of the secular world in that they too may come to realize the saving power of Jesus to set them free from Satan’s grasp and begin a new life in Christ Jesus that will last for all eternity – in Christ.
Dear LORD,
Please give us the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of Your Word that we would be able to discern it from that of the false teachers of this world. And LORD, it is my prayer that in doing so that You would use us to share the true gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the kingdom of heaven with these very people that they too would repent and open their hearts to You and begin a new life – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
