2 Peter 1:13-15

Peter says in 2 Peter 1:13 (NKJV), “as long as I am in this tent,” and in so is speaking of his physical life in his physical body as a person on this earth.  And as long as God gives him physical life on this earth, he believes that it is right to constantly remind all believers, to the point that he desires to “stir you up” (2 Peter 1:13) concerning “these things.”  We know that “these things” are the seven qualities that he speaks of in 2 Peter 1:5-7 and that they should be sought with all diligence.  And even as being a constant reminder of these things, the Apostle Peter is filled with a passion and desire that not only will he be a constant reminder of these things for us, but that even after his passing/physical death, that he is, “careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things” (2 Peter 1:15).

This is a command, example, and promise to always be a reminder to each other in grasping virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love in Christ Jesus.  And to display them in our Christian lives for all to see Jesus in our lives that they too might experience the saving grace of salvation in and through Christ Jesus.

Peter is writing this to all believers – to all who have put their faith in Christ Jesus.  He wants and desires to be a constant reminder to all Christians of the qualities that we should grasp and display in our lives in bringing glory to God and being a reflection of our Savior Jesus to all those around us and throughout the world.  We too should have this attitude as a believer and partaker in the salvation that God so graciously gave us through His one and only Son Jesus, whom He sent to save the world from sin.

Dear LORD,

You have called us to salvation in Christ Jesus that we would bring glory to You through our physical lives and share the love that You have shown to us with others that they too might come to saving faith in Christ Jesus.  Please plant within us all the attitude of the Apostle Peter that we would join him in being a constant reminder to each other in encouragement and the joy of Christ Jesus that You have blessed us with – that the knowledge of Christ Jesus would be known by all and the door opened for Your Holy Spirit to work in the lives of others through what You are doing in our lives – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
