1 Peter 1:3-5

1 Peter 1:3-5

Peter begins this letter by giving blessing to God, the Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who, through His resurrection secures for us a living hope and an inheritance that is, as Peter states in verse 4 (NKJV), “incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away.”  He tells us that this inheritance is reserved for us in heaven – for those who through their faith in Christ Jesus are, “kept by the power of God” (1 Peter 1:5) as this will be revealed to all in the end times.

This is a promise of the security that is found through salvation in Christ Jesus.

This is a promise of the inheritance that does not fade away.

This is a promise that our inheritance in Christ Jesus is reserved and awaiting us in heaven.

“An inheritance incorruptible and undefiled that does not fade away,” that sounds so far away from us in this sinful world in which we live.  But it’s true; God has reserved it for us.  But we must turn away from the sinful nature and ask Jesus to forgive our sins and open our hearts to Him and begin living a life that strives to please Him.  We can only be granted an inheritance in Christ if we have our faith in Him – if we have put Him first in our lives.  John 1:12-13 (NKJV) states, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”  This is being born again.  This is spiritual birth into a life that has been redeemed and clothed with righteousness, but not just any righteousness, it’s the righteousness of Christ Jesus who shed His blood for us so that we might live through Him.  In this is an inheritance that is incorruptible and undefiled that does not fade away.

Dear LORD,

Please open our eyes to, “a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven,” for all who are born again through the wonderful gift that You gave the world in Christ Jesus.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
