2 Timothy 4:17–18

As the Apostle Paul has spoken about his feeling forsaken by those who he felt should be helping him in his time of need (2 Timothy 4:9–16), he has also realized and understood that sometimes the Lord separates us from the support of others so that we may feel His support and guidance for our lives and build our personal relationships with Him. Paul states in 2 Timothy 4:17–18 (NKJV), “17But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear. Also I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. 18And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!”

This is a promise that sometimes God is separating us from human support so that He can give us divine support.

It is not only the realization and understanding of God’s desire to build a relationship with us that is important, but that we give Him all praise and glory as our Creator and Sustainer of life. God alone is worthy of our praise, and it is when we realize and understand this that our obedience and humility to Him begins to shape our lives through His will and desire for us instead of our own will and desires. If you feel as if God has separated you from the support of others, maybe He is trying to reach you personally.

Dear LORD,

Many of the Psalms are of singing praises to You O God and King (Psalm 145:1). Psalm 146–150 begin and end with “Praise the LORD!” Please help us to realize and understand this so that our hearts, minds, and souls will cry out to You always with praise. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
