2 Timothy 3:10–15
The Apostle Paul has begun 2 Timothy 3 by teaching of those in the world who will not follow the ways of the Lord (2 Timothy 3:1-9), but in 2 Timothy 3:10-15 Paul reassures Timothy of his own continued faith through the perils of life and through the struggles of it. Paul declares in 2 Timothy 3:12-15 (NKJV), “12Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
This is a promise that Christians will suffer persecution in this world.
This is a warning that the evils of this world will grow worse and worse.
I believe that this world was created as a place to cast Satan/Lucifer when he was cast out of heaven for his disobedience to God (Ezekiel 28:17, Luke 10:18), and a battleground for Satan to prove/disprove his challenge to God (Isaiah 14:12-21).
We are God’s prize in this war against the devil as God will not force us to follow Him and His will for our lives as the devil does everything he can in his trickery and deception to keep us from realizing and understanding God’s grace to us in salvation through Christ Jesus. Jesus stated that as He suffered persecution in this world, we will too. But He conquered this world and the sinful nature that attacks us each day so that we could be set free from it. Put your faith in Jesus today and proclaim Him your Savior – seek His will for your life and follow that path in this world as it is the only way to overcoming the evils of this world.
Dear LORD,
Satan tries everything he can to keep us away from You, but it is through Your great love that conquers all. The Bible teaches us in 1 Corinthians 13:8a that love never fails, and in 1 John 4:8 we learn that You God are love. Please help us to see that it is through Your great love for us that conquers all – even the devil – that You loved us so much as to send Your One and only Son to save us from sin (John 3:16–17). In Jesus name I pray, amen.
