2 Timothy 2:8–9

In 2 Timothy 2:8–9 the Apostle Paul reminds us that Jesus’ ancestry can be traced back to King David (Matthew 1, Luke 3:23-38). Paul has been captured and imprisoned numerous times throughout his ministry, but he wants everyone to know that even though he is being treated as a criminal for his faith in Jesus, it is because of the resurrection that makes Jesus our true Savior as He paid the price for all sin through His sinless death but rose from the dead in victory over it. Even though Paul in in chains for his belief in Jesus, the message of the gospel will always be free to all who will receive it.

This is a promise of the freedom of the gospel message in Christ Jesus.

There are still places today where people are put in prison for sharing the message of the gospel. It is the true suffering for believing in God and our Savior Jesus Christ. But as God works in mysterious ways, the Apostle Paul was able to utilize his time in prison to minister to those who he would otherwise not be able to reach with the message of the gospel. Through prison ministries today, many people are brought to a saving grace and their lives are changed, just as you and I – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

Your saving grace works wonders of salvation in anyone who will receive it with an open heart to put You first in their life and believe that Jesus was raised from the dead (Romans 10:9-10). Pease help us to always be ready to share the message of the gospel with others, just as did Your servant Paul. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
