2 Timothy 2:23–26

In 2 Timothy 2:23-26 is the sum of why we should follow the advice of the Apostle Paul. To be a servant of the Lord is to avoid things like being involved in “foolish and ignorant disputes” (2 Timothy 2:23, NKJV), and to be gentle – to everyone; to be able to teach and be patient while conducting oneself with humility when giving others correction. The sum is then found in 2 Timothy 2:25b–26 stating, “if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.”

This is a command to conduct oneself in the ways of a servant of the Lord.

This is a promise of the reward for doing so; it is not a reward for us but for the one who is released from the grasp of Satan by coming to a realization and understanding of repentance and salvation in Christ Jesus.

We all are being watched all the time by those who are questioning our faith in God and if there is really any change in our lives for having such faith. The truth is that our actions may lead others to Christ Jesus without us ever finding out about the results of our actions and reactions to others. God uses us in ways that we could never imagine to draw others to Himself. It is through our faith in Him that allows it all to happen. Jesus declared in John 15:5, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

Dear LORD,

Sometimes we may believe that no one is paying any attention to us or the ways in which we conduct ourselves. Please help us to be aware always of the impact we may have on others through Your great plan of salvation for the world. Please help us to always be aware that we are Your arms and feet today to spread the message of the gospel throughout the world. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
