2 Timothy 2:2
The Apostle Paul instructs Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:2 (NKJV), “2And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” This is all summed up in 2 Timothy 1:13–14, “Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.”
Paul is instructing Timothy to not only express and hold to these teachings in his own life, but to teach others to do the same.
This is a command to lead other faithful Christians in the teachings of the Bible so that they too will be able to lead others.
We are given a “holy calling” (2 Timothy 1:9) according to God’s purpose for our lives in Christ Jesus. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). The devil tries to put fear in our hearts, minds, and souls to keep us from being the people God has called us to be in Christ Jesus. It is only through putting our total faith in Jesus that we may then overcome the wiles of the devil. The Apostle Peter declares in 1 Peter 4:1-2, “Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.”
Dear LORD,
Please help us to realize and understand that we are chosen by You for a purpose that You have created personally for each of our lives. Jesus stated in John 15:19–20, “If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.” Please give us strength and guidance LORD to be faithful to You and teach others as You have taught us. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
