2 Timothy 1:12

In 2 Timothy 1:12 (NKJV) the Apostle Paul states, “12For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” He began this passage with the words, “8Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, (2 Timothy 1:8) and is referring to the sufferings faced in this sinful world by all Christians. Through it all, he knows that through the power of God and His grace, all will be well in the end.

This is a promise that God is able to get us through the sufferings we face in this world.

As Christians, we all can relate, though it may be in different ways, to the sufferings we face each day for the sake of Christ Jesus and our dedication to Him. Thought at times it may be tough, we must remind ourselves of the words of Paul in 2 Timothy 1:7, 12, “7For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. . . 12For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.”

Dear LORD,

Many people wonder why we would suffer for anyone or anything, but it is not suffering as this world knows suffering but suffering against the attacks of the sinful nature of this world; it is suffering from those who do not know the power of salvation in Christ Jesus. Jesus declared in John 15:18–20 that as He suffered, so will we. Jesus was hated and persecuted for sharing the message of the gospel of the kingdom of heaven. As followers of Him we will be treated the same way. Please help us to not forget that You are in control and it is through Your power and grace to us that will get us through until that Day. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
