2 Thessalonians 3:7-9

The Apostle Paul is teaching the Thessalonians how to conduct themselves as Christians; but just as important to his teachings is his actions in being the example that he is teaching the Thessalonians to be. He states in 2 Thessalonians 3:7-9 (NKJV), “7For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you; 8nor did we eat anyone’s bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, 9not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us.”

This is an example of walking in the light of Christ Jesus our Savior.

It is important for the Thessalonians to see the example that Paul is setting and that they follow this example, but even more so is the importance of following in the footsteps of the One in which Paul has been given his example. . . the footsteps of Jesus. Jesus declared in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” The Bible teaches us the way to walk in Micah 6:8 teaching, “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?”

Dear LORD,

We all want to walk in the light that You have given us in the example of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please help us to learn from the example that the Apostle Paul set for the Thessalonians that we too would conduct ourselves as Your children saved by Your grace in thanksgiving for all You have done for us – in Christ! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
