2 Thessalonians 3:10-12

The Apostle Paul has given an example of himself and his ministry team to follow in the ways one should walk in their salvation in Christ Jesus (2 Thessalonians 3:7-9). In 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 (NKJV) Paul declares, “10For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. 11For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. 12Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread. This is not addressed to those who are unable to work or participate in the daily activities of the church, but those who refuse to work and yet desire to reap the benefits of the works done by others.

This is an example and command that everyone in the church should help with the duties of the church to help it thrive as a community.

The church is a community of togetherness in sharing the gifts of all its members to benefit the whole community, and even more, the church in walking in the footsteps of Jesus. In Acts 2:44-45 the Bible teaches us of the togetherness the early church had as they all sold their possessions and shared everything equally as one had need. Acts 2:46-47 state, “So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”

The church has many opportunities to volunteer and find a spot in which the gifts God has given you may be of help to the church community. The Lord will bless you for doing so.

Dear LORD,

Please help us all to realize and understand that You have called us for a purpose, and to a purpose – in Christ. Please help us to realize and understand that we all have a talent that You have given each of us that will aid in the church community to help it grow and be a vibrant community. And please help us LORD to realize and understand that the talents You have given us will be wasted if we do not step forward and use them. Give us the courage and dedication to You LORD and to our Savior Jesus that we would be a part of our church community to bring glory to You through our lives – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
