2 Thessalonians 2:3-4

The Apostle Paul explains to the Christians at Thessalonica, “3Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God” (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, NKJV). He assures them that even though they have been experiencing trials and tribulations, this day has not yet come.

This is a promise that the Day of Judgment has not yet come.

The one who “sits as God in the temple of God” (2 Thessalonians 2:4) is a reference to the prophecy found in Daniel 11:31, 12:11 that is referenced also by Jesus in Mark 13:14-23. The “man of sin” or “son of perdition” (2 Thessalonians 2:3) is described in more detail in Revelation 13 and a very important note on this matter is found in Revelation 13:7-8 declaring, “It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

There have been many historical figures who we may think could have fit the above description of the “man of sin” or “son of perdition” (2 Thessalonians 2:3), but the Bible does not allow all the conditions of this person to have ever been met as the information in Revelation 13 describes. The important thing is that we put our faith in Jesus and trust Him. Whether we die today or 100 years from now, if we do not confess our sins to God and ask Jesus for forgiveness, believing in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead in victory over sin, death, and Satan after Jesus died to pay for all our sins, we will be lost to eternal condemnation for our lack of faith in our Savior who came to save us from sin and eternal condemnation. Put your faith in Jesus today; ask His forgiveness for your sins; invite Him to live within your heart cleansing it from sin to be your guide to life forevermore.

Dear LORD,

We all have many questions regarding the signs of the times and of just exactly how salvation in and through Christ Jesus works in our lives and seals us for eternity in heaven with You to bask in Your glory forevermore. Please help us to not get lost in searching so hard for the answers that will remain unknown to us until that day, and help us to focus on preparing our own hearts for that day so we will find our names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
