2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
Throughout the Apostle Paul’s letters written to the church at Thessalonica, he has been encouraging and guiding them in walking in the ways of the Lord Jesus Christ. In 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NKJV) as he nears the end of his second letter to the church at Thessalonica, Paul gives encouragement as he prays, “16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, 17comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.”
This is a prayer for encouragement and strength for those seeking to follow Jesus.
The Thessalonians were experiencing some tough times and needed encouragement to get through them. As the Apostle Paul guided and comforted them, he can also comfort us, still today, in navigating the trials and tribulations that we face each day. The tough times will always be a part of life on earth, but navigating through them can be so much better for us if we will put our faith in Jesus to help us from within our hearts, minds, and souls. God gives us the inner peace and guidance we need to navigate the trials we face in our lives, but we must trust in Him to do so, and then to follow as He leads us. Opening our hearts to Jesus is opening the door to our hearts for His Holy Spirit to be welcomed in and guide us. Jesus promised in John 14:15-18, “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever–the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. He will help you too if you will open your heart to Him.
Dear LORD,
In this world we all have our own tough times to navigate. It is tough for us to know what to do during these times. They may be different for each of us but we all need Your guidance to make it through them. Please help each of us to remember to call on the name of Jesus to help us and guide us through the tough times we face each day that we would be overcomers – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
