2 Peter 1:4b

In 2 Peter 1:4b Peter tells us why what he has been teaching us in these first few verses of 2 Peter chapter 1 is so important; why it matters so much for all people.  The apostle Peter tells us in 2 Peter 1:4b, “that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature,”.  For those who believe, who are bondservants of Christ Jesus (2 Peter 1:1a); “who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ,” as Peter proclaims in 2 Peter 1:1b, would be “partakers of the divine nature” which is the filling of God’s Holy Spirit within the heart of all believers.  God does not end salvation with the mere words of proclaiming salvation in and through Christ Jesus; He allows those who believe in Him to experience and live in His divine nature.

This is a promise of the gift of living in the divine nature of God for all who will believe in Him and His Son Jesus.

That’s why we have broken down this introduction of the Apostle Peter in his second letter.  Each part of this calling on one’s life by God is so important to grasp and understand the best that we can in gaining a better understanding of what being saved in and through Christ Jesus is all about.  God is love (1 John 4:8, 16) (NKJV), and He sent His love for us in His Son Jesus to save us from sin.  And by accepting God’s love for us and reflecting His love through our lives to others, His love is “perfected” in us (1 John 4:12).  This is being a “partaker of the divine nature” of God (2 Peter 1:4b).

Dear LORD,

Thank You for allowing those who believe in You and Your Son Jesus to be “partakers of the divine nature” through Your Holy Spirit that You send to live within us, and that teaches us, and helps us to grow in our relationship with You.  Please help us to see the importance of this in gaining an understanding of Your Word – the book of life for all who will believe in You and Your Son Jesus whom You sent to save the world from sin.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
