2 Corinthians 9:8-9
The Apostle Paul has been working through the anxieties of giving against that of the human nature to have/receive as he has been encouraging the congregation of the church at Corinth to develop giving hearts. He now gives the reassurance that only comes from having a sincere heart to God, and that is, as Paul states in 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NKJV), “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” Paul then reaffirms this with a Scripture reference to Psalm 112:9 declaring,
“He has dispersed abroad,
He has given to the poor;
His righteousness endures forever.”
This is a promise of God’s blessings for those with giving hearts.
We all love it when we feel God’s blessings on our lives; it is the greatest feeling (I believe) that we can experience as human beings. In 2 Corinthians 9:8-9 the Apostle Paul gives us confidence of God’s blessings on our lives if we utilize the giving hearts that God has given us all. That’s right, we all have giving hearts, it’s just that Satan strives to blind us of this connection to God as His children in reflection of Him. The ways of this world are tough to deal with as we strive to be obedient to God’s will for our lives in it, but the Bible teaches us that God is with us always and He has overcome the wiles of the devil, that if we put our trust in Him, He will save us from sin and protect us from the wiles of the devil. Jesus promises us in John 14:18, “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” Jesus also teaches us in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” And in Ephesians 6:11 the Bible teaches us, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” God has defeated Satan and the ways of this world for us. He is our strength unto salvation. He is our hope, our grace, our sufficiency, and our abundance – In Christ! Put your trust in Jesus today, and He will be yours too!
Dear LORD,
We know that You are able to make all grace abound toward us as the Apostle Paul teaches us in 2 Corinthians 9:8. We know that You have overcome the devil and the ways of this world. We know that You will save us if we put our faith in You – to confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord, and to believe in our hearts that You have raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9-10). Thank You LORD for overcoming the devil and the ways of this world for us so that we may find peace – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
