2 Corinthians 8:16-21
Knowing of the gift in which the church at Corinth has previously promised to send to the Church at Jerusalem to be distributed to those in need, Paul gives praise to God in that Titus was chosen to accompany the gift to Jerusalem to ensure the safety of the gift and in being a proper representative of the church at Corinth in sending the gift. Also, for being a witness of the dedication of the congregation of the church at Corinth, and to see that the gift goes into the hands of the able and willing to distribute the gift and not abuse the privilege.
This is an example of the faithful in heart looking not only after the gift of giving for the needs of others, but for the faithful in heart seeing that the gift is being distributed as such.
We give to the church not only to support the church, but to aid those in need in our communities, that the church would appoint those who are dedicated to ensuring that the gifts we give find their way to those in need. We give money to many things and causes, but there has been a downward spiral in giving to the local church. I admit that some churches have distributed the gifts of their congregations inappropriately, but that is where we are to find a good Bible teaching church that preaches salvation in, and only in Jesus, and that has a dedicated heart and mindset to reach out to the needs of the community as is the role of the Church – in Christ.
Dear LORD,
We have developed trust issues with the church today, but it is not Your Church that has caused this issue, but false teaching churches that are not sincere in their dedication to You. Please help us all to find and support the church that preaches salvation in and only in Christ Jesus that our gifts to the church would not be in vain but to bring glory to You in reaching out to support those in need. Please let it be so LORD. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
