2 Corinthians 8:13-15

In giving, as the Apostle Paul has stated in 2 Corinthians 8:8-12, it is not that anyone should cause themselves to lack in anything by their giving, but that everyone would, as a whole,  have all their needs met.  Paul quotes Exodus 16:18 (NKJV) declaring, “He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack.”

This is a command, example, and promise for equality for everyone.

God gave us salvation through giving His One and only Son to pay for our sins so that everyone who believes in Him can have everlasting life (John 3:16).  Jesus declares in John 10:11, “I am the good shepherd.  The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”  The Bible teaches us that we can all be giving people, even those who have previously made their way by thievery.  As God changes the heart of the believer, and anyone can have their heart changed by God as they make the decision to believe in Him, repent, and begin living a new life of forgiveness in Christ Jesus.  We learn in Ephesians 4:28, “Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.”  The main point of Exodus 16:18 is equality, that we would all look after the needs of everyone; that we would all share with one another; in doing this the needs of everyone will be met.

Dear LORD,

There was a time when business could be determined with a handshake.  A time when the attitude was made solid by the agreement.  Today we experience so much selfishness that it would be naïve to trust a business deal on the grounds of a handshake.  Please help us to regain the attitude of a giving heart that looks to the needs of others over and above our own selfish wants.  Please let it be so LORD. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
