2 Corinthians 3:4-6

2 Corinthians 3:4-6 is a continuation of the teaching found in 2 Corinthians 3:1-3.  And as the transformation of the Christian is written on their hearts, the sufficiency of the ability of the Christian is found in God through salvation in Christ.  The Apostle Paul states in 2 Corinthians 3:5 (NKJV), “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.”  And He continues in speaking of how message of the gospel that he teaches is also inspired by God.  But he then gives a note that leads to the connection of the Law and faith.  He states in 2 Corinthians 3:6c, “for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”  This is explained in Romans 3:27-31 stating, “Where is boasting then?  It is excluded.  By what law?  Of works?  No, but by the law of faith.  Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.  Or is He the God of the Jews only?  Is He not also the God of the Gentiles?  Yes, of the Gentiles also, since there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith.  Do we then make void the law through faith?  Certainly not!  On the contrary, we establish the law.”

This is a promise of being sufficient not of ourselves but of God through our salvation in Christ Jesus.

The Bible teaches us that we are sufficient through the new covenant, as is stated in Luke 22:20, “Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.’”  And of the covenant being, “not of the letter but of the Spirit” as Paul declares in 2 Corinthians 3:6b, the Bible also teaches us in John 4:23-24, “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.  God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”  It is the Spirit that gives life; as Jesus teaches us in John 3:5-6, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.  That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”  God gives us our strength and abilities to accomplish whatever it is that He puts on our hearts through our salvation in Christ Jesus.  Trust Him today and every day and watch how He will work in your life.

Dear LORD,

You are our strength; You are our guiding light through Your Holy Spirit working in our lives; You are our hope and joy in life; You are our salvation; You are our everything.  Thank You LORD God Almighty.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
